Coach Requirements
Coaches (Head and Assistant) MUST:

Adhere to the AYSO Vision, Mission, and AYSO Philosophies, including Positive
Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development, and meet all AYSO
volunteer registration standards.
Coach Requirements
All coaches must complete each numbered requirement below
to be eligible to coach and to be allowed on the sidelines during games and tournaments.

Volunteer Registration
Submit the Volunteer Form with electronic signature through this ALLIANCE
registration portal each membership year (August 1 – July 31; may apply July 1). Volunteer when signing up your child to play or re-log back into this site, click on MyAccount to the left and navigate to Find Volunteer Roles -
AYSO Background Check
Maintain a current AYSO Background Check. Email invite ([email protected]) is sent after Volunteer
Registration is completed.

Safe Haven (Child & Volunteer Protection)
Complete through AYSOU. Course must have been taken after 2019. - Sudden Cardiac Arrest
Complete through AYSOU
AYSO & HYSA Combined Training
-
SafeSport Training (AYSOU)
Required annually: July 1 – June 30.
Use the same name and email for credit with both AYSO and HYSA.

HCamp Online Course
Navigate to Youth / Community Coaches.
Required annually: July 1 – June 30.
AYSO Affinity HYSA Registration

Complete AYSO Affinity HYSA Registration through the designated registration link.
HYSA Requirements

HYSA Risk Management Disclosure
Complete Option 1 or Option 2 at least 4–6 weeks prior to the first game
to receive State Association Coach Cards and to be allowed on the sidelines.
Failure to complete this requirement before the first competitive game will
result in suspension until all requirements are met.

Coach Training Level
Coaches must meet state association licensing requirements and may also require
AYSO certification at the age level coached:
- 12U — AYSO U12 Coach Certificate
- 13U–14U — AYSO Intermediate Coach Certificate
- 15U–19U — AYSO Advanced Coach Certificate
Certification completion requirements:
- 10U & 12U: Course completed after January 2013
- Intermediate: Course completed after January 2015
- Advanced: Course completed after January 2018

Contact the Section Coach Administrator for U.S. Soccer equivalency or United
Soccer Coaches reciprocity.
These requirements do not apply to tryouts for the AYSO ALLIANCE Team.
Head Coach Responsibilities
The Head Coach is accountable to the AYSO ALLIANCE Director for all team
activities. Responsibilities include:
- Scheduling practices, games, and scrimmages
- Clear and timely communication with parents
- Tournament participation and travel coordination
- Discipline when necessary
- Completion of all required paperwork

Ensuring each player participates in at least one-half of each game
(injury or discipline exempt)
- Maintaining required AYSO volunteer-to-player ratios
